Day trip at the heart of Soomaa

Day trip at the heart of Soomaa

Spend a day at the iconic Karuskose in the middle of Soomaa and learn how to canoe well. A day on canoe and walk in the bog at Soomaa National Park is suitable for beginner canoeists and families. During the day, you can go canoeing on Lemmjõe and Raudna and hike in Kuresoo.

As an additional service, if you wish in the evening you can go to the smoke sauna or to hot tub, jump from the sauna into the river and make a bonfire.

Planned hikes take place in May, during the rest of the time it is possible to book a hike for your group starting from 2 people.

The duration of the canoe trip is about 3 hours and the distance is 10 kilometers. We start the hike from the Mulgi Heinamaai, where the floodplains of the Lemmjõgi river, flooded with old oaks, spread out. During the hike, we pass the Suitsna ancient farm place and the Lemmjõe forest watch cordon. In the last third of the hike, the river is wider and joins Raudna. We finish at Karuskos, where a meal and a bog tour await us.

The price for an adult is 75€, for a school-aged child 45€. The route is too long for preschool children, and if you are thinking of canoeing with children, please contact us in advance and let's plan a more suitable canoe tour.

In spring, it may happen that you find yourself in the middle of Soomaa fifth season, but it is difficult to predict, and a canoe is the best way to explore Soomaa in three seasons as well.

"The weather has the last word. It is difficult to correctly predict the state of high water for the coming spring, although the long-term observations of local residents allow us to guess a few things: if the autumn is rainy, the ground has managed to freeze deeply by winter, and in addition, late spring, which requires rapid snow melting, there is a fear of particularly high water levels."; - J. Liinson,Spring high waters of the Halliste and Kõpu rivers;, Eesti Loodus no. 4, 1971
